In Portland, or anywhere in the world, John loves playing with Portland's renowned bassist and composer David Friesen. Here they are on Bright Moments, a broadcast on KBOO hosted by Lynn Darroch in 2010. Long time friends, John has recorded on several of David 's albums: Four to Go, Five & Three, and Circle of Three.
The astonishing Alan Jones is another favorite collaborator. John has performed, toured and recorded with Alan since moving to Portland. John may be heard on Alan's albums Unsafe, The Leroy Vinnegar Suite, and Climbing Rough.
Last but not least, composer Gordon Lee has provided magnificent opportunities for John to play and record with Rough Jazz.

Right now, you might see him at a club or concert venue, such as Ivories, Clyde's, The West Cafe, Camelia Lounge, Bipartisan Cafe, Jimmy Mak's, Revival Drum Shop, and wherever else they'll take him. In Portland he plays with David Friesen, Allan Jones, Dave Frishberg, Scott Cutshall, Cameron Morgan, Quartette Barbette and many, many wonderful others. He has recorded with Allan Jones, Gordon Lee, William Thomas, Tom Wakeling, Randy Porter, and similarly many, many more wonderful others who he hopes will forgive him for not listing them here.
